“The Enduring Charm of Wuzhou: A Cultural Journey Through Porcelain and Tea” offers Moroccan audiences an immersive introduction to Jinhua’s cultural heritage

RABAT, Morocco, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Jinhua brought its performing arts, ceramics and tea traditions to Morocco in early September through the 2026 Jinhua Culture and Tourism “Into Africa” program. Held at the China Cultural Center in Rabat under the theme “The Enduring Charm of Wuzhou: A Cultural Journey Through Porcelain and Tea,” the program combined live performances, demonstrations by traditional artisans and hands-on activities. Together, these elements introduced Moroccan audiences to Jinhua’s history, cultural traditions and tourism offerings while encouraging greater cultural exchange between China and Africa.

Designed as an immersive “miniature Jinhua,” the program centered on three traditions closely associated with the city: Wu Opera, Wuzhou kiln ceramics and Wuzhou tea. Young performers Zhu Shuojing and Ouyang Mingju from the Zhejiang Wu Opera Art Research Institute presented The Heavenly Maiden Scattering Flowers, a classic of the Wu Opera repertoire. Their performance drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Following the performance, guests visited three interactive areas devoted to Wu Opera, traditional craftsmanship and tea culture. Wu Opera performers showcased characteristic stage movements and gestures. Shao Wenli, who carries on the Wuzhou kiln pottery tradition, demonstrated ceramic relief techniques, while Pan Lei, who carries on the Juyan tea tradition, guided them through traditional methods of preparing and presenting tea. Guests also posed for photographs with bilingual transparent photo cards incorporating elements of all three traditions, providing another way to experience and share Jinhua’s cultural heritage.

Held as part of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, the program supported the goals of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation by creating direct opportunities for cultural exchange and adding local momentum to efforts to build a “Cultural Silk Road.” Jinhua plans to continue exploring new approaches to cultural exchange and working with partners across Africa to strengthen mutual understanding and build lasting connections between communities.
