EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have established a five-year wheat procurement agreement valued at up to US$500 million. This agreement transitions a 2023 financing framework into an operational import scheme for Egypt. Under the arrangement, Al Dahra will deliver imported wheat to GASC with financing support from the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The deal formalizes the purchase process under that existing financial program.

The signing took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk—who also leads GASC—present at the event. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, was also in attendance. The announcement did not specify details such as wheat quantities, shipment schedules, origin countries, or the pricing formula for purchases under this agreement.
The financing structure originates from August 2023 when ADEX and Egyptian authorities launched a revolving wheat import program. The program was initially set at US$100 million, with renewals each year over a five-year span, potentially reaching a total of US$500 million. Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance collaborated with GASC in that initial setup. The 2026 agreement now provides the operational framework for GASC’s wheat acquisitions from Al Dahra within this financing scheme.
Operationalization of 2023 financing plan
ADEX functions as the export-financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offering credit linked to purchases from Emirati exporters. In 2023, the office announced that its Egypt facility would fund wheat and other essential commodities supplied by Al Dahra. The financing arrangement established a five-year framework for such transactions with GASC. The recent agreement maintains that structure while setting out operational details for Al Dahra’s imported wheat supplies.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has been active in Egypt, managing agricultural operations in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in the country. Over the past three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. This week, Al Dahra highlighted that its broader agricultural platform now serves over 40 markets globally.
Al Dahra’s Egypt activities date back to 2007
The agreement signed in August 2026 concerns imported wheat, although Al Dahra also produces agricultural commodities domestically. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn. It noted that roughly 85% of its Egyptian farm output was sold locally. The new arrangement pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC via the ADEX program, rather than a separate US$500 million financing facility.
The five-year agreement puts into effect the financing plan announced three years prior, rather than establishing a new US$500 million fund. Neither Al Dahra nor GASC has disclosed the total wheat volume covered, nor the annual shipment schedule, source countries, or pricing details. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed arrangement remains a five-year wheat supply program worth up to US$500 million financed through ADEX.
